" ...look at a painting for a second and think about it for the rest of your life"

Sep 5th 2019

Yesterday, I recieved a lovely email from an Art Collector, who I never met. I want to share his message with you, because it says a Great Deal about Art Collectors, that the World rarely hears about. He talks about a painting, I created in the Mid 80's titled "16 Bunnies."

Hi Gaye,

Thank you so much for getting back to me. I am so happy to have finally solved this persisting enigma of mine! Read on.

Simply put, not buying 16 Bunnies is one of the major art purchasing regrets of my life. I know that that sounds a bit dramatic, but here's the story: A college buddy of mine and I used to go see the NY Philharmonic rather regularly back in the 80's/90's. One night there was an exhibition of paintings that we went to go see afterwards, and there was 16 Bunnies ... and I fell in love with it. I was mesmerized and could not stop staring at it! I just loved the joyful feeling it imparted to me. If I recall correctly, at the time I believe that it was listed for the price of $500. Now I was just out of college in the mid 80's and so $500 was a very big deal to me at the time. But I kept hemming and hawing thinking to myself that I could swing it somehow, but ultimately reluctantly walked away. So you are very lucky to have 16 Bunnies hanging in your living room, because if I had been smarter it would be hanging in mine!

But I never forgot your painting! There's a Joan Miro quote ... "You can look at a painting for a whole week and then never think about it again. You can also look at a painting for a second and think about it for the rest of your life." And that's what your painting did for me. So congratulations to you on that, you richly deserve it!

And for the last 20+ years or so since the internet became ubiquitous, every once in awhile I would try to search for "16 Bunnies." I figured that if the artist had been shown at Lincoln Center that they must be serious about their work and be active in the art world, and that I would surely eventually find it. But year after year I never did. And I had tried so, so, so many of times over the years. So when I tried again the other day and your painting came up - I was FLOORED. And honestly when it appeared on my screen - although I THOUGHT that I had the right one and had finally found it - I couldn't be completely sure since my memory had faded so much after 30 years. All I could really remember before seeing it again was that the painting was large, was very orange, it had a lot of happy bunnies in it, it made me very happy to look at, and that there was one particular bunny in the lower right hand corner that was looking straight on at the viewer. So that prompted my email to you.

I still can't believe that I tracked it down. I know that you said you uploaded it in 2015, but I know that I've searched for it after that, but for some reason it didn't come up for me.

Anyways, I just thought that you deserved to know what a great work of art you created, and how much it moved me. So much so that I never forgot about it after seeing it just once, and that I still tried to find it after 30+ years.

I will definitely be visiting your store - and yes of course it's a great idea for you to have opened it!

Thanks again for getting back to me, and congratulations again for creating such a wonderful work of art!

Warm regards,
